Ever wondered how your fellow RV enthusiasts keep in touch with loved ones while cruising the open road? We asked our readers in a recent newsletter poll, “How do you stay connected with family and friends while RVing?”—and let’s just say, the results were… illuminating.

From die-hard phone call fans to the mysterious disappearance of video chat lovers, the responses paint a fascinating picture of life on the road. If you missed this poll, don’t worry—there’s always another one coming! Make sure to vote next time so your voice can be part of the hilarious (and sometimes baffling) findings.

The Results Are In!

Here’s how RVers prefer to stay connected:

Phone Calls: The Undisputed Champion

With a whopping 67% of the vote, phone calls reign supreme. Apparently, nothing beats the classic “Hey Mom, I’m alive and also in a Walmart parking lot” check-in. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of hearing a loved one’s voice, or perhaps RVers just enjoy the thrill of spotty cell service turning every conversation into a suspenseful game of “Can You Hear Me Now?” Either way, old-school dialing is clearly the people’s choice.

Video Chats: The Ghost Town

0%. That’s right—not a single respondent said they use video chats. This is suprising as a lot of people FaceTime… but not our RV readers!

Did Zoom meetings during the pandemic traumatize everyone into eternal camera avoidance? Or is the idea of trying to angle your phone just right in an RV (while also hiding the pile of laundry in the background) just too much effort? Whatever the reason, video chatting has been officially voted “Most Likely to Be Ignored by RVers.”

Social Media & Emails: The Distant Runners-Up

Social media (17%) and emails (16%) split the remaining votes, proving that some RVers still like to keep it digital—just not too digital. Posting scenic sunset pics with captions like “Living the dream!” is clearly a must, while emails are reserved for the serious stuff—like forwarding dad jokes or arguing about the best brand of RV toilet paper.

Why Did the Poll Shake Out This Way?

Our theory? RV life is all about simplicity. Phone calls are quick, reliable (mostly), and don’t require a perfect Wi-Fi signal—something every RVer knows is rarer than a quiet campground neighbor. Video chats, on the other hand, demand way too much coordination (and let’s be honest, nobody wants to be caught on camera after three days of “off-grid hair”). Social media and emails are great for casual updates, but when you really want to connect, nothing beats hearing a familiar voice—even if it’s just to say, “Yep, the septic tank’s full again.”

So, what’s your go-to method for staying in touch on the road?
