Buying an RV is an exciting adventure—until you discover hidden problems that could turn your dream road trip into a roadside nightmare.

Whether you’re a first-time buyer or a seasoned RVer, inspections are crucial to avoid costly (and sometimes dangerous) surprises.

Certified RV inspector from Deb’s RV Services uncovered three major flaws in recent inspections.

Below, we break down the highlights:

1. Loose U-Bolt on an Integra Odyssey

During an inspection of an Integra Odyssey, Deb discovered a loose U-bolt—a critical component holding the leaf springs together in the suspension system.

As she explains, “It was loose and wobbling… if you didn’t have this looked at, that whole thing might fall off over time.” While it’s an easy fix now, ignoring it could lead to a catastrophic failure later.

Nothing says “adventure” like your suspension deciding to take an impromptu vacation mid-highway.

Maybe the U-bolt just wanted to feel free—but your RV definitely shouldn’t!

2. Faulty Furrion Refrigerator in a Grand Design Trailer

The second RV, a Grand Design travel trailer, had a Furrion refrigerator making a horrible noise.

Deb’s verdict? “It sounds like it’s coming from down there… and my technician friends said, ‘Yeah, those things just need to be swapped out.’”

Unfortunately, some RV fridges can’t be repaired—only replaced, which is a pricey surprise.

If your fridge sounds like a demonic poltergeist, it’s not haunted—it’s just cheaply made. Time to exorcise it with your credit card.

3. Dry-Rotted Tires and a Missing Inverter in a Pleasure-Way Van

The third inspection was a disaster.

The owners claimed the tires were brand new, but the date code revealed they were from 2018—and completely dry-rotted.

Even worse? The inverter was missing, and a janky replacement was stuffed in a cubby.

Deb didn’t hold back: “I don’t think she intentionally misrepresented the tires… but they certainly weren’t new.”

“New tires” that are actually older than some TikTok trends? That’s not a red flag—that’s a whole parade.

Final Thoughts

An RV inspection can save you thousands (and possibly your life).

As Deb says, “Think about the loose bolt, the tires—those are life safety items.”

If you’re in the market for an RV, always get it inspected—or at least use a checklist.
