If you think the most dangerous part of camping is the wildlife or unpredictable weather, think again! Sometimes, the real risk is rolling down the highway in an RV with a hidden recall. With thousands of RV recalls every year, it’s no wonder owners are left scratching their heads and checking their VINs.
Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a weekend warrior, knowing which models have had the most problems can save you a world of trouble—not to mention a few headaches (and maybe your bacon).
In the video below from the Camping Loop channel, the host breaks down the top 10 RV brands with the most recalls in recent years.
1. Puma Fifth Wheel Trailers (2016-2024)
“Number one on the list that has over 41,000 units affected—2016 to 2024 Puma fifth wheel trailers. Apparently, the overcurrent protection for the battery isn’t routed correctly and it’s easy to pull the wires out of the junction box. We all know loose wires, easy to spark a fire.”
Good news: dealerships will reroute those wires for free. Bad news: If you ever wanted to practice your fire drill, this RV might have given you a head start. Who knew camping could be so… electrifying?
2. Forest River RPOD Models (2025)
“The second unit on this list that’s owned by Forest River—2025 RPOD models… the tray that holds the propane tanks down wasn’t installed using enough screws. If the tray is not properly installed, obviously the tanks can go flying off and you can imagine that might pose a bit of a threat.”
If you ever wanted to play a real-life game of “dodge the propane tank,” now’s your chance—just kidding! Luckily, Forest River will supply the parts for free, but maybe keep your helmet handy just in case.
3. Forest River Clipper Models (2024-2025)
“Well, to be fair here, they did use enough screws, it’s just the welds on the bottle bracket that break… the freshwater tank bracket is so thin that if you fill it up and travel down the road, it can snap right off.”
You know your RV’s in trouble when it’s basically held together by hope and a prayer. Maybe just pack bottled water for your next trip—just to be safe.
4. Keystone Crossroad Sunset Trail (2024)
“Keystone is recalling 2024 Crossroad Sunset Trail… for a potential fire risk. The window shades installed incorrectly… can dangle down onto the burner. Nothing says rise and shine faster than burning your curtains while you’re making your bacon.”
Breakfast and a bonfire, all in one! At least the fix is free—just don’t try multitasking with bacon and blinds.
5. Brinkley Model Z Fifth Wheels (2024-2025)
“Brinkley RVs 2024 and 2025 Model Z fifth wheels… the pin tighteners might not be fastened correctly which allows the unit to detach… only 180 of them have been fixed as of April 1st.”
If you see a fifth wheel passing you without a tow vehicle, it might be a Brinkley. On the bright side, Brinkley will send a mobile tech to fix it—so you don’t have to chase your RV down the highway.
6. JAYCO JFeather, JFlight, JFlight SLX (2021-2023)
“The issue here is the cooktop burner can actually invert if the stove top and the furnace are running at the same time… dealers will put some sealant on there and they’re using plywood panels to seal off the affected area free of charge.”
Who knew cooking breakfast could turn into a science experiment? At least you’ll get some free plywood—maybe build a birdhouse with the leftovers.
7. Thor Motorhomes (2023-2025)
“Thor Industries… less than a week ago Thor recalled 4,200 different motorhomes for slideout issues… they’re able to open without the parking brake being engaged.”
Pro tip: If your living room suddenly appears on the highway, it’s probably a Thor recall. At least you’ll get a new park and brake harness for free—and a great story for the next campfire.
8. Winnebago Echo & Micro Mini (2021-2025)
“Winnebago… recalling 2024 and 2025 Echo models for missing bolts on the spare tire… over 5,500 2021 to 2024 micro minis, the circuit board on the cooktop range apparently overheats and can cause fires… they don’t have a fix yet.”
If you ever wanted your spare tire to go on its own adventure, or your cooktop to double as a campfire, Winnebago’s got you covered. At least you’ll get some free lug nuts and a wrench—tools for your next DIY project!
9. Grand Design Solitude (2019-2024)
“Grand Design 2019 to 2024 Grand Design Solitude fifth wheel units… the step tread joints are breaking… there’s still no fix in sight.”
Who needs stairs, anyway? Just practice your long jump before your next camping trip. Until there’s a fix, maybe keep a trampoline handy.
10. Grand Design Reflection, Transcend, Solitude (2022)
“Over 30,000 units affected by a faulty propane connector in 2022… only 8,000 so far have been fixed.”
If you ever wanted to test your luck with a leaky propane connection, this is your chance. Get it fixed before your next camping trip—or just bring marshmallows and make the best of it!
