The pitter-patter of rain on the fiberglass roof can either be a soothing soundtrack or a cagey sentence to boredom.
We recently asked our newsletter readers about their preferred indoor entertainment when the weather turns sour. This topic strikes a chord with every RVer who has ever been cooped up inside their home-on-wheels.
The poll sought to uncover how we all turn a gloomy day into a cozy one. We wanted to know how you creatively pass the time when the great outdoors becomes a giant puddle. Remember, this poll was taken in our weekly newsletter, so be sure to subscribe and vote to make your voice heard in future results and findings!
Here is a breakdown of the poll results presented in a simple chart:
Activity | Percentage |
---|---|
Reading | 18% |
Watching Movies | 65% |
Playing Games | 17% |
Crafting | 0% |
The Reigning Champion: A Movie Marathon in Motion
It seems a vast majority of you are hunkering down for a cinematic adventure. With 65% of the vote, watching movies is the undisputed king of rainy day activities.
Perhaps there’s nothing better than getting lost in a film while the world outside gets a car wash. Just make sure your streaming service is working and your batteries are charged!
A Quiet Nook with a Good Book
A respectable 18% of you prefer the quiet company of a good book. This is the classic, low-energy way to let the hours slip by unnoticed.
Cracking open a novel is a perfect way to enjoy the rhythmic sound of the rain. It’s a peaceful escape without ever leaving your comfy dinette bed.
Game On for a Competitive Bunch
Coming in a close third, 17% of respondents opt for playing games. This is the choice for those who see a rainy day as a chance for some friendly competition.
Whether it’s a rowdy card game or a strategic board game, this group keeps the energy high. It’s a fantastic way to connect with travel companions when you’re all stuck inside together.
And Then There’s Crafting…
We must address the elephant in the room, or rather, the missing hobby in the RV. Crafting received a resounding 0% of the vote.
It appears that glitter, glue, and tiny pieces of felt are a bridge too far for most RVers. The potential for a craft-pocalypse in a 300-square-foot space is apparently a universal fear.
Why We Think the Votes Fell This Way
We believe the results so heavily favored movie-watching because it is the ultimate low-fuss, high-reward activity in a confined space. After a day of hiking or exploring, a rainy day is often seen as a forced rest day, and passively watching a screen requires minimal physical and mental energy.
Reading and games are wonderful, but they require a bit more active engagement, which might feel like too much effort on a lazy, stormy day. The absolute zero for crafting likely reflects the practical realities of RV living; with limited counter space and storage, spreading out supplies for a project is more of a nightmare than a relaxing pastime. Ultimately, when the sky opens up, it seems most RVers just want to press play and relax.
