We asked you, our wonderful community of road warriors, to shed some light on your rig’s energy-saving secrets. The topic of energy-efficient appliances is a hot one, especially when you’re boondocking and every amp-hour counts. We were genuinely curious to see which gadgets and gizmos are winning the power-saving popularity contest in your rolling homes. This poll was recently featured in our newsletter, and we want to thank everyone who cast their vote. If you haven’t voted in our past polls, make sure you’re subscribed so you can be a part of the results and findings next time—your opinion truly powers this community!

Here is a breakdown of how the votes landed.

Appliance TypePercentage
LED lights83%
Solar-powered devices11%
Energy Star-rated appliances6%
Low-energy heating/cooling0%

The Glaringly Obvious Winner

Our poll results reveal a clear champion in the RV energy-efficiency arena. LED lights absolutely dominated the survey, leaving the other options in the dark.

It seems you all have seen the light, and it’s a very efficient, low-draw, and bright one. This isn’t just a trend; it’s a full-blown illumination revolution on wheels.

A Surprising Shine from the Sun

Coming in a distant but respectable second place were solar-powered devices. This shows a sunny disposition towards harnessing renewable energy right from your rooftop.

While not as universally adopted as LED bulbs, the solar contingent is a passionate and growing group. They’re probably the ones quietly judging the rest of us who still rely heavily on campground hookups.

The Appliance Underdogs

Energy Star-rated appliances managed to secure a small slice of the pie. It seems that while we want efficiency, we might not be rushing out to replace our trusty, if slightly power-hungry, fridges and microwaves just yet.

And then we have our absolute, unequivocal loser: low-energy heating and cooling. It received a big, fat zero percent of the vote.

This result is both hilarious and completely understandable. Let’s be honest, when it’s 100 degrees outside, your “low-energy” mindset goes out the window in favor of a roaring, power-guzzling AC.

Why We Think the Votes Lit Up This Way

We believe the results are so lopsided for a few very practical, and funny, reasons. LED lights are the “gateway drug” to energy efficiency; they are cheap, incredibly easy to install, and provide immediate, noticeable savings on power consumption.

Conversely, upgrading to a full Energy Star-rated appliance suite is a major investment for something that might already be working just fine. Solar power, while amazing, still has a higher initial cost and complexity that can deter the casual RVer.

As for the stunning defeat of low-energy heating and cooling? This is the most honest result of the poll. It confirms a universal truth for all Rvers: we are willing to sacrifice almost anything for comfortable temperatures. There is no such thing as a “low-energy” setting when you’re trying to survive a desert summer or a mountain winter. Comfort, it seems, will always trump kilowatts.
