We recently posed a critical financial question to our wonderful community of road warriors. The topic of RV insurance costs is one that impacts every single person who owns a home-on-wheels, from the weekend warrior in a cozy teardrop to the full-timer in a majestic Class A motorhome. We know that discussing insurance can feel about as exciting as leveling your rig on a steep incline, but understanding the landscape helps us all be smarter consumers.

This poll was launched exclusively in our weekly newsletter, where our most dedicated readers get the first look. If you’re not subscribed, make sure you sign up so you can vote in future polls and have your voice heard in our findings!

Here is how the votes stacked up from our community.

The Frugal Road Warriors

Let’s hear it for the 26% of you paying under a grand annually! You are the budgeting wizards, the coupon-clippers of the asphalt. We imagine you have a magical leprechaun as your insurance agent who only accepts payment in lucky charms. Seriously, teach us your ways. Are you insuring a pop-up camper with a policy written on a napkin? Whatever your secret, we salute your financial prowess.

The Comfortably in the Middle

The largest group, a solid 35%, falls squarely in the $1,000 to $2,000 range. This is the sweet spot, the Goldilocks zone of RV insurance. You’re not losing sleep over the bill, but you’re also not bragging about it at the campfire. Your policy probably has all the standard bells and whistles without including coverage for, say, an accidental encounter with a yeti. You are the sensible backbone of our community.

The “Wait, How Much?” Bracket

Then we have the 13% in the $2,000 to $3,000 range. This group is looking at their bills with a slightly furrowed brow. You likely own a substantial rig that requires a more substantial policy. We suspect you’ve had a “talk” with your agent that involved a lot of hand gestures and the phrase, “But it’s not even a real house!” You are the cautious investors, paying for peace of mind on the open road.

The Premium Paying Pioneers

Finally, we have the 26% paying over $3,000 a year. This is the big leagues. You are likely piloting a land yacht worthy of its own zip code. Your insurance policy is probably a leather-bound tome thicker than a RV park phone book. We imagine your coverage includes things like “act of golf ball” and “rage-induced damage from a misplaced sewer hose.” You are living the high life, and apparently, insuring it at an equally high altitude.

Why We Think the Votes Landed Here

We believe the results are a perfect reflection of the incredibly diverse types of RVs and owners in our community. The nearly even split between the lowest and highest brackets highlights the vast difference between insuring a small, used travel trailer versus a brand new, diesel-pusher motorhome. The prominent middle group represents the average for most mainstream Class B, C, and smaller Class A rigs. Ultimately, your insurance cost isn’t just about the vehicle; it’s deeply tied to your usage—full-timers face vastly different rates and requirements than occasional vacationers. These results beautifully illustrate that there is no single “normal” cost, only what’s right for your specific adventure on wheels.
