When Brooke stumbled upon a 1984 Chevy 454 Big Block 7.4L engine RV on Facebook Marketplace, she saw more than just an old vehicle; she saw potential.
“I have always had the ability to turn something old or unused into something much better,” Brooke shared with us.
And so began the transformation of the RV that she affectionately named “Winnie.”
Brooke’s journey with Winnie started with a vision. Despite the challenges, she was determined to breathe new life into the RV.
“I believe almost everything can have another life with the right adjustments,” she said.
This belief drove her to make several modifications, even though she hasn’t been able to make as many as she would like.
One of the first changes Brooke made was turning the two twin beds into a queen bed with storage underneath.
This not only provided more sleeping space but also added much-needed storage.
“I took out the refrigerator and replaced it with a mini fridge for now,” Brooke explained. This temporary solution is just one step in her ongoing project.
She also pulled out the furnace and did some painting on the floors, which she plans to replace completely in the future.
Brooke’s creativity didn’t stop at the interior. She also added a personal touch to the exterior with some hand painting and glitter accents.
“When people are going 75 mph down the highway and they look over, what do they see?
A bunch of white boxes, that’s it. But their heads actually turn when they see a blast from the past, the one that stands out,” she said. Brooke’s artistic flair ensures that Winnie is not just another RV on the road; she’s a head-turner.
However, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges.
The biggest hurdle Brooke faces is getting the motor running. “I’m mostly proud of all the work I’ve done on the 1984 Chevy 454 Big Block 7.4L engine so far,” she shared.
Despite her efforts, a blown head gasket has presented a significant obstacle.
“My head wants to quit and run but my heart won’t let me,” Brooke admitted. Her determination and passion for the project keep her going, even when the going gets tough.
Brooke’s skills as an RV Technician—and almost a mechanic, as she puts it—have been invaluable in this project.
She found Winnie running for $1500 in Illinois, a testament to her knack for spotting potential in the most unexpected places.
The “10 year rule” that many RV parks enforce has also been a source of frustration for Brooke.
This rule often prevents older RVs from being allowed in parks, regardless of their condition.
“The thing that gets me with that rule is that, when people are going 75 mph down the highway and they look over, what do they see?
A bunch of white boxes, that’s it,” she lamented. Brooke’s work on Winnie is a statement against this rule, proving that older RVs can be just as beautiful and functional as newer ones.
Winnie’s new life is a work in progress, but Brooke’s dedication and vision are clear.
Her story is a reminder that with a little creativity and a lot of heart, anything can be transformed.
As Brooke continues to work on Winnie, we can’t wait to see what new modifications and improvements she makes.
Her journey is an inspiration to all RV enthusiasts and a testament to the power of perseverance and passion.
